Front Door Upgrade

The front door was a classic black, which I saw as an opportunity to add some character and a pop of color. The mailbox, house numbers and light were all gold. The gold on the house numbers made it very hard to see and people were always having trouble knowing which house it was (evidenced by the photo to the right).

Soon after moving in, this was one of the first projects I tackled. I used Houzz and Pinterest to search for fun front door colors. I really liked the red and royal blue options - so many cute choices! But with the color of the house and trim, I felt that yellow(!) would be more fun and welcoming. I also planned to spray paint the mailbox, house numbers and light white so they would stand out better.

So I headed to Lowe's to look for the right color. I've gotten much better about testing paint colors before buying the whole gallon... looking back I can't believe I just picked one in the store and then painted the front door without questioning it!

After some deliberation, I landed on Pantone's Solar Power (the name is often as persuasive as the color!).

The project itself wasn't very time consuming. I taped the small peep hole and removed the handle and lock but kept the door hanging. This made it easy to roll the entire door. This is the part where I start to question my choice and wonder if I picked the right color. Why did I chose yellow? Why not something more traditional?! ... but it was all worth it in the end!

I did a total of two coats to cover the black and then just reattached the lock and handle!

I finished the project at night so had to wait
until the morning to see the real result...
